The Ser Sustentável program (Be Sustainable Program) aims to develop suppliers for the acquisition of used cooking oils, sourced from public waste‑collection systems, commercial establishments, and households, to be used as a raw material for biofuel production. The program is based on three pillars: environmental, through the proper disposal of used vegetable oil; social, through the inclusion and empowerment of the Cooperative and its members; and economic, by generating income through the sale of the collected material.
The project involves the acquisition of sustainable raw material from COAMA, a waste pickers’ cooperative duly licensed for this activity and located in Passo Fundo, RS.
The project’s actions will provide the following benefits: increased job and income generation for cooperative members; reduced final waste‑disposal costs for the municipality; and reduced environmental impact resulting from the improper disposal of oil into receiving bodies of water.
